Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment for 2026 Expected to Surpass This Year’s Increase
The Senior Citizens League projects Social Security’s 2026 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will rise to 2.7%, up from this year’s 2.5% increase. The forecast hinges on persistent inflation trends, with final figures to be confirmed in September.
Benefit adjustments are calculated using the CPI-W index from July through September, compared year-over-year. Last year’s 2.5% COLA prediction proved accurate—retirees currently average $2,006.69 in monthly benefits.
